Surf Pines Committees

Standing Committees

Community Relations Committee (CRC)

  • The Community Relations Committee of Surf Pines is a volunteer committee that strives to promote positive community relations. This committee is the fun committee. CRC actively promotes social and educational community activities. These include, but are not limited to, garden education events, community garage sales, social activities like the annual picnic, annual meeting, street parties and other social events.

Roads & Grounds Committee

  • The Roads & Grounds Committee of Surf Pines is a volunteer committee that works to maintain, improve, and beautify the roads and properties of Surf Pines. The Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding maintenance, repair, and operation of Surf Pines amenities including roads and gates, beach paths, the Surf Pines park, water pumps, and the security and meeting houses. This committee guides Surf Pines Association (SPA) on upkeep of our assets including all our roads, which are private and not part of Clatsop County. They typically meet once a month and are involved in keeping our community up to date.
Safety and Security Committee
  • This group was just recently resurrected and will meet as needed. The goals of the Committee is to support our Security person, develop guidance on community security affairs as it relates to our gates and the community. Among those are uninvited visitors, unruly renters and members, pet and animal control, dangerous and hazardous issues, and items that affect our safety and security.
The Breeze.
  • Is not actually a committee but are the volunteers who publish our newsletter. It has been published over the last 50 years. The Breeze is published quarterly and our editor is always looking for interesting content.

Ad Hoc Committees

The function of ad hoc committees is to accomplish specific tasks, often on a short-term basis not easily provided for elsewhere in the committee system. Each ad hoc committee has a particular goal to achieve or product to provide to its initiating body; when its task is completed, the committee is dismissed. Below are the most active ad hoc committees.

Communications committee
  • This committee was started up to re-evaluate our web and social media presence, update our association member database, digitize our records in a digital vault, save and record our past history and accomplishments. Current needs include: content to keep our web and social media current and provide information to help our members, web and social media helpers to provide information to members in a timely and appropriate way,  Another area that we would like to see is a group of SPA members who create a historical history of SPA and the surrounding area. As an example here is a 30 minute video on early Surf Pines as an example
Budget committee
  • Normally meets about two months before our annual meeting. This group completes the reserve study for future needs then develops the new budget for our fiscal year ( July 1 till June 30) to present to the Board for consideration. Typically the Treasurer will ask a small group to meet with him in finalizing the budget for the new fiscal year. This usually is started up in May or June so the budget can be sent out the membership before the annual meeting in August. During this process the reserve study is also updated as per the Oregon Revised Statutes.
Short Term Rental Committee
  • The Short Term Rental Committee's mission is to communicate with all rental owners throughout Surf Pines in order to preserve the Surf Pines Community in both residential value and community spirit.

Nominating Committee

  • Every year a minimum of three members review all potential candidates who wish to run for the Board. It normally is called by the President of SPA around June so they can submit potential candidates for any position on the Board for that new fiscal year.
