Digital Books about Surf Pines and Clatsop Plains

This section includes digital books that Surf Pines has been approval to publish on our SPA History Information pages. We are so excited to be able to have our first two books produced by long time residents about the Surf Pines area. The first is from Paul See, whose grandfather, Josiah West,  bought and developed much of the donation land claims property in the Surf Pines, West Lake and Culaby lake area. Much of the lands that are now Surf Pines were acquired from descendants of Josiah West. Paul's parents owned two lots which the Seppa family now owns on the south east side of Sunset Lake. Many thanks to Paul's family for giving us permission to publish electronically on the Surf Pines web and the Clatsop County Historical digital library.

The second book was produced by Alice Gustafson, a long time Surf Pines resident who interviewed many of the original residents of Surf Pines, including Paul See, Mike Manion (son of original primary real estate agent for Barney Lucas in the early years of Surf Pines), Rolf Klep Family (Rolf was instrumental in opening the Maritime Museum in Astoria), the Lucas kids Jimmy and Patty and many others. This shorter book does a nice job of describing the development of the area that is now Surf Pines. Again many thanks to the Gustafson Family for allowing us to publish this book on the Surf Pines Web and the Clatsop County Historical digital library.

We will include more as we find and obtain permission to publish these digitally for our members. Please enjoy.
